Tabitha Ministries operates Tabitha Place,  an emergency shelter for homeless women that operates four days a week, Tuesday through Friday nights.  We partner with Noel House, the Seattle Women's Referral Center and the YWCA's Angeline's Place to provide comfort and rest for our guests.

In addition, the ministry operates the Tabitha Food Bank and will soon be offering a monthly community dinner for our neighbors along Aurora Avenue North in Seattle through Tabitha Community Meals.

Our Mission

Tabitha Ministries exists to shine a light in our community by meeting people in their place of need and walking with them along the way to freedom and healing.

Upcoming Events

All our volunteers and anyone seeking more information about the ministry is welcome to join us at 7:30pm on Friday, February 19th at Bethany Community Church in the CE Auditorium.

Get Involved

Each night that Tabitha Place is open, it takes the hard work and dedication of eight volunteers to operate the shelter in a safe and hospitable manner.  The Tabitha Food Bank is open every Monday night from 5:30-7:00 and welcomes walk-ins from the community. We typically staff the food bank with three to four volunteers each Monday night. Though many of our volunteers commit one night a month, many others have been led to invest even more of their time into this service. On the last Monday of the month when we serve our Tabitha Community Meal, we need even more volunteers.  Below is a summary of our ministry teams and the function they serve:

Tabitha Place Opportunities:

Overnight: Each night that we are open, two volunteers arrive at 8:30 pm and stay overnight in the shelter.  Both men and women are welcome to volunteer.  In the morning, they wake up at 5:45 am and help our guests start their day by setting out a light snack.  Once the bus picks up the guests at 6:30 am, these volunteers clean up and put away the shelter space and are typically done at 7 am.

Hospitality: Volunteers show up at 8:30 pm and set up the shelter space each night with beds and lighting as well as administer the clothing closet.  These volunteers will have a chance to interact with our guests before departing prior to lights out at 10:15 pm.

Nutrition: Two volunteers prepare a "light" meal in the evening and prepare a light snack for the morning.  While serving the women in the evening, nutrition team volunteers have a chance to interact with guests.  Volunteers with food permits or the willingness to take a short class to obtain one are especially needed!

Transportation: Volunteers drive the church mini-buses to Belltown each evening that the shelter is open to pick up the women at Noel House.  In the morning, a volunteer will pick up our guests at Bethany and drop them off at YWCA's Angeline's Place in Belltown. The Transportation team is our biggest need at this time. Please consider helping out!!!!

Other Ministry Opportunities:

Tabitha Food Bank: Volunteers staff the food bank from 5:30 to 7:00 every Monday night. During this time, volunteers prepare the CE Building as a place of hospitality to welcome our neighbors and pack canned and dry goods into bags. In addition to help on Monday nights, Tabitha Food Bank also needs volunteers to help market our service to the neighborhood and replenish our inventory by soliciting for donations or organizing food drives.

Tabitha Community Meal: COMING SOON!!!! Volunteers are needed to help prepare a meal on the last Monday of every month. Volunteers must have a food handlers permit or the willingness to obtain one.

Tabitha Prayer Team: Prayer is the heart of our ministry.  Every third Sunday of the month we have a prayer meeting and the team commits to responding to prayer requests throughout the month.  They also provide a prayer update that is e-mailed periodically.

Administration: Volunteers spend time to scheduling volunteers for each of the teams, communicating with the congregation, recruiting new volunteers and serving our leaders and volunteers.

If you would like to volunteer, please download our application here, complete it and return it to the Bethany church office.
